| English translation of Sandra´s TV appearance
on "VIVA Interactive" on November 2, 2001:

The show was hosted by popular Viva moderator Mola Adebisi
Mola: Well, ladies and gentleman, now she´s here for you!! The unbelievable,
often copied but never reached Sandra!! Applause!!!
(Audience welcomes Sandra with cheers and applause while she enters
the studio)
Mola: A wonderful good day, how are you? Sit down, sit down :-)
(She takes a seat next to Mola on the red couch)
Mola: My heart just broke, Sandra! You cannot do this... We just talked
about the former absolute cult TV show "Formel Eins" and you brought us
the cult present for this show - you cannot be serious giving it away!
| (Sandra brought as a gift an award she got from the former German
music show "Formel Eins" back in the 80´s. Each star guest brings such
a gift to the show and they are later given away to fans who call on the
phone and answer some questions right) | |
Sandra: Yes, I thought twice about it but it is worth to me :-)
Mola: This is very, very sweet of you.
Sandra: It was my very first award, by the way.
Mola: The first award you got?
Sandra: The very, very, very first award I ever got, yes. I thought
it is rather nice, it fits to the occasion, or? :-)
Mola: Yes, it fits indeed. But camera guys and directors here are in
panic about it and probably I will also call later on our phone to take
this trophy home :-)
(Sandra smiles)
Mola: Your career went... (Mola makes a gesture, rising his hand high
in the air). "Maria Magdalena" was in 19...
Sandra: 1985, it is written on the award. If the camera gets
closer, you can read it. I think on September 16th, 1985, it was No.1 in
Germany.
Mola: Incredible. For how long, do you still remember?
Sandra: Oh, I think for 19 weeks... ("Maria Magdalena" stayed
in the Top 20 for 16 weeks)
Mola: And about 5 million singles of it were sold.
Sandra: About that, right.
Mola: Really incredible.
Sandra: Across Europe, not only in Germany.
Mola: Right. That´s unbelievable. Well, and then it went happily on
- how many albums did follow?
Sandra: Alltogether we made 8 albums. 1999 "My Favourites" was
added to that.
Mola: And always gold and platin?
Sandra: Yes, more or less.
Mola: How is it? Once you sold 5 million records, do you get used to
it soon?
Sandra: No, absolutely not. I was always glad for each and every
single that made it into the charts, also this time with the new one, after
a pause of 7 years. I didn´t think it would go so fast, with the first
release already. I´m extremely happy about it :-) It´s almost like the
first time with "Maria Magdalena", I couldn´t believe it :-)
Mola: Yes, you can observe it here, too. We have those "wish clips
of the day" and you were running against Kylie Minogue and won with a great
lead. So you can already imagine that it is gonna be a winner.
Sandra: Super :-)
Mola: Why after 7 years? Why did you leave us for so long?
Sandra: Simply because I got twins in 1995, two boys, they´re
6 years old now. And you probably can imagine how much work it was. I´ve
always wanted to have children and thought...
Mola: It was double work.
Sandra: Yes, of course double work, even triple work, I would
say :-)
Mola: Oh god, tins. How did you do that?
Sandra: Right at the first time :-)
Mola: All or nothing :-)
Sandra: Right :-) And I took care of my children and now they´re
going to school for 1 year, in 2nd class now in an English school because
we live in Spain.
Mola: Why Spain? Because the weather is better?
Sandra: No, we just decided to do it because we were in holidays
there often, had an appartment and we liked it more there. And no fans
who sleep in our garden :-) We live in a former farmhouse, very quiet and
more beautiful for children than a big city.
Mola: Right.
Sandra: And someday we said to ourselves: Let´s just stay there.
Because it is rather central, you can get everywhere, don´t have to wait
for hours at the airport. And it doesn´t matter if I come to my TV shows
from Munich or from Ibiza. It´s not off the world.
Mola: Right. And Ibiza is also rather nice, isn´t it? The weather is
better, too..
Sandra: That too, right :-)
Mola: By the way, we have a really big fan here, from 1985 on. An "original"
one.
(Mola points to a young guy, sitting right from Sandra, she turns
her head and smiles)
Sandra: Hello :-)
Mola: He´s quite excited the whole time. You are... ?
Lars: I´m Lars.
Mola: And you are a big fan. Now you can ask Sandra a real good question.
| |
 |
Lars: I would be interested
in what "technical problems" there are, that delayed the release of the
new album "Wheel of Time".
Sandra: There are no technical problems, where did you get that
information from? |
Lars: It is said so on
the website of Crocodile Music.
Sandra: No, it was just that Michael got sick and was out for
6 weeks and therefore the release was postponed a bit.
Mola: Question answered?
Lars: Yes, I´m going to
wait for it anyway :-)
Sandra: Okay (laughs)
Mola (to the camera): You in front of your TV will soon also have the
chance to ask Sandra a question on telephone or with an e-mail. But first
we want to watch the current videoclip. We will be right back.
(Videoclip "Forever" is played)
Mola: Sandra "Forever", the new single. Your new album will be released
when... ?
Sandra: The release is planned for the beginning of February.
It will be called "Wheel of Time".
Mola: And it is not a "Best of"?
Sandra: No, it's a completely new album. We are in the process
of recording... and as I said: February :-)
Mola: In which musical direction will it go?
Sandra: Like always, but... Well, let yourself be surprised :-)
Why should I tell so much? :-) But I think you all will like it :-)
Mola: How far are you with it?
Sandra: Six songs are more or less ready. We don´t know exactly
yet how many songs will be on the album, it also depends on the time but
I think it will be very good :-)
Mola: Should be about how many songs...?
Sandra: 11, maybe 12 songs. Depends on how long the songs are.
Mola: Also some fast and slow songs, good mixture?
Sandra: Yes, sure :-) A little blues-like, too...
Mola: Would you like to do something together with somebody else? Maybe
another singer you'd like to make a duett with?
Sandra: Probably I will make something together with Michael.
An album or so...
Mola: That´s very near at hand.
Sandra: Let´s see, let´s see :-)
Mola: Is there currently a singer you maybe would like to do something
with?
Sandra: There´s nothing planned at the moment. In earlier times
I always had the dream to do something together with Phil Collins but somehow,
well... I didn´t think about that at the moment.
Mola: A female singer maybe?
Sandra. No, no one actually.
Mola: What music do you listen to anyway? Are there people you admire
and listen to privately?
Sandra: Actually I listen to everything. We have VIVA running
the whole day and other TV stations, too. So the charts are running all
day, also the U.S. charts. There´s nothing special.
Mola: What was the last CD you bought?
Sandra: The last one I bought? Well, "Blue" from Eiffel 65. Because
my son Nikita loved it and wanted to have it very badly.
Mola: "Da dee da ba dee"
Sandra: Yes, he sang "Da dee ba da di" all the time :-)
Mola: We have a caller on the telephone now who wants to ask a question... Hello ?
Alex: Hello? This is Alex from Berlin.
Mola: Hello Alex.
Alex: First of all I want to thank Sandra a thousand times for releasing
something new after 6 years.
I´m a huge fan since 1987, I was 12 years old then. You conquered my heart
with "Everlasting Love"and it was still GDR time then, I was living in
East Germany, and the most beautiful presents were your LP´s that I got
from relatives in Hamburg.
Sandra: Sweet :-)
Alex: And many thanks for joining me through all the years. I´d
like to ask you if you will go on tour now soon or some time later?
Sandra: If the new album sells well, there will be a tour for
sure.
Alex: Would be super! And I also wanted to know if your very first
solo singles, "Andy mein Freund" and "Japan ist weit" are somehow available
on CD.
Sandra: They´re not available anymore. I was 12 years old when
I did "Andy mein Freund", my first single, and... it´s not available anymore.
Alex: I only read about it, I never actually listened to the song.
Is there a tape of it or something that I can get?
Lars: I have it.
Mola: You have it? Wow!
(Sandra points on Lars)
Sandra: Contact my fan here, maybe he records it for you :-)
I myself don´t have it anymore.
(Mola walks to Lars with the microphone)
Mola: You don´t have it anymore?
Sandra: No.
Mola: "Andy mein Freund" was the first single?
Lars: Exactly.
Mola: And where did you get it from?
Lars: From a second-hand
book shop.
Sandra: See?
Lars: Difficult to get
and it is traded for more than 500 DM at record fairs now.
Mola: What???
Lars: Really, yes.
Mola: 500??? Did you know that?
Sandra: No. First time I hear that :-)
(Mola laughs)
Alex: Release it again then (laughs)
Mola: We got your telephone number?
Alex: Yes.
Mola: Do you call him? So you can make a copy for him? Would be nice,
or?
Lars: Yes
Alex: That would be super, thank you.
Mola: Good. Perfectly. That´s how it´s got to be... Second-hand bookstore...
500 DM.
(Mola walks back to his seat)
Alex: I wish you luck with the new album, Sandra.
Sandra: Thank you :-)
Alex: Top 10 hit is a must!
Mola: A must! At least! :-) Have a nice day, bye.
Alex: Bye
Mola: Man, 500 DM! "Andy mein Freund". You were 12 years old then?
That´s sweet. How come, making a record as a 12 years old?
Sandra: It has always been my dream to sing and I did ballet
back then. And some day I visited a children´s song festival with my parents.
We sat in the audience and I didn´t like so much what was going on on stage.
So I went back to the car, took a record from Olivia Newton-John, handed
it to the DJ and said that I also wanted to sing. And he just put it on,
gave me the microphone and I sang over it and when I came back to the table
with my parents, several record producers sat there who wanted to do something
with me. And that´s how it all began.
Mola: Incredible, unbelievable.
Sandra: You have to have courage.
Mola: Courage, yes, that´s quite right. We have an e-mail now with
a question for Sandra:
"Hello VIVA TV !"
We think it´s super that you invited Sandra because we are very
big fans of her!!!! (Me and my friend Franziska)
My question to Sandra, if it is not too personal: Sandra, how did
you met Michael Cretu? I would be sooooooooooooo thankful if you could
read my e-mail.
Many Greetings from Katja and Franzi...
Sandra: I met Michael Cretu in the studio. Back then when I belonged
to a band called Arabesque, he already played keyboards and also did arrangements
for us. I was the lead singer of Arabesque, we were very successful in
Japan, sold over 6 million records there, I was 16 years old at that time.
With one or two songs we were also successful in the charts here in Germany,
place 7 with "Marigot Bay" and place 11 with "Take me, don´t break
me", but not really successful in Germany. And like I said: Studio team,
studio musicians, Michael saw me the first time when I was 16. And we fell
in love when I was 20. He came along on a Japan tour - there it happened.
Since then we are together.
Mola: That´s beautiful, almost too good to be true :-)
Sandra: Yes :-)
Mola: The name "Arabesque" came from ballet? That figure?
Sandra: No, not from ballet, that was a co-incidence.
Mola: Okay. We will play another clip now, I´m waiting the whole time
for it. It will be "Maria Magdalena". You extra made a clip for it back
then, didn´t you?
Sandra: There was no clip first for it, it was the beginning
of videoclips and we made one with Mike Lekkebusch, because we told ourselves
that we need a clip, that something had to happen. And it was right at
the time when videoclips became important.
Mola: Unbelievable. We have here your cult present from then... Nooooo,
please, don´t give it away... :-) "Formel Eins", the beginnings of music
television. Our grandfather show, so to speak And now Sandra with "Maria
Magdalena"...
(Videoclip "Maria Magdalena" is played)
Mola: One moment ago in the clip, now on stage with "Forever". By the
way: The band is still the original folks, maybe you recognize them!! Now
Sandra! Applause!!!!!
(Stage performance of "Forever")
Mola: Whooo! Sandra! A history of success continues. Thank you for coming,
thank you to your band :-)
Sandra: Thanks :-) |
